Where to Install a Smoke Detector

It is important to Installing a smoke detector-Device to detects smoke as an indicator of fire  at the house for life saver purpose. Also, important where to put the smoke detector,  so its can work the most effective.

As a fire burns, the smoke will rises to the higher level. According to The National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) the ceiling near a doorway or stairway is the best location to put a smoke detector with more than 30cm  away from a light or a wall. At least one smoke detector on each level of the house. If the house have two level (floors) and  have  one smoke detector only, put it somewhere to be able to hear  when  asleep.

To be optimal, it also good to put  a smoke detector on the hallway ceiling, outside of bedrooms (sleeping areas). Installing a  smoke detector in each sleeping areas, located in different areas or different level of the house.

Kitchens is of course  a top priority  location to put  a smoke detector. Usually smoke from cooking can causes nuisance alarms (false alarms,  not caused by actual fire). Usually because of  Nuisance alarms people  temporarily remove the battery or disconnect  to silence the smoke detector. Unfortunately,  often forget to reconnect the alarm, and end  with disastrous consequences.

Primarily due to aging of their electronic components, smoke detectors become less reliable and responsive to nuisance alarms. Therefor every 10 years replacement recommended by the NFPA.To be sure, check for local regulation and requirement with your city’s fire department.

The more alarms installed in the house, the safer it will be. Must make sure,  they are working properly  and  check them regularly every week.
